Let's Adopt

i just walked into Mom's room ~ Lori is here visiting inbetween school and JJ's office.  Mom was saying "What do you think about adopting a Syrian refugee?"

Mom has said that several times and I have said "No".  I am not sure where this is coming from. Does anyone have any ideas?

She has said many times that I need to find a handyman to help me out here ~ I wonder if she is thinking to adopt a Syrian refugee to do manual labor?  I will remind her that is slavery.

It is now to take Mom to Duke for her eye exam.  Always a fun trip.

Marching, cont.

Apparently, Jane marched in San Francisco ~ and it was pouring!!!!!!

Natalie and Jane

Me, no marching.  But today I sent a letter to North Carolina's Commissoner of Insurance (what is that anyway) and State Fire Marshall (I know what that is) ~ anyway, he made a nasty snarky remark on Facebook and then apologized later when he was caught.  I wrote him a letter expressing my sincere unhappiness with him.  And I got the addresses of my state senators and representatives so I can write them about my opinions.

So, I am proud to know all of you!  You did good!!!!

Marching with Millions

Amy and Lori went to Raleigh and marched with millions.  Interestingly, they were told to write on the arms with a permanent marker "someone to call" if anything happened.  I asked Amy "like what?" And she said "violence".  Luckily, they came home safe, energized and tired.

Bravo!!

Strange Dream

Here it is, the middle of January and I am waiting for the Tony Kornheiser podcast to be dropped for today and making Mom her breakfast.  Amy is working before she goes to the barn.  It is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and I just noted on Facebook that Mom had attended the march.

I had the strangest dream last night and it was so vivid!  I dreamed that we all were in Miami at Sissy's old house.  There was going to be some big party at the house and I was the last one there.

I walked in and went upstairs ~ Mom and Sissy were in bed in the bedroom that had twin beds.  There was a trunk in between the beds with potted plants on it and Sissy had taken the plants and pulled them out of the pots and onto her bed.  I put the pots together and tell them it is time to get up.

I go into the room on the right with the double bed and Aunt Nancy is in that one.  I am telling her it is time to get up and notice that all over carpet are dead leaves.  I say "Couldn't anyone vaccum before the guests arrived?"

Then I go downstairs and Nancy is in the little kitchen cooking and I go into the sunroom and Tony, Drew, Jim, Lori and Carole are all there with all the dogs and a new little Chuawawa.  There is also a very old round refridgerator in there and I open the door (it is hanging on one hinge) and there is a ton of food and salads and hamburger in  it and I shut the door quickly because I don't want the food to warm up - it is a really sketchy fridge.

I go back into the kitchen and Nancy is stirring something and tells me to get rid of all the stuff in the old refridgerator because it can't possibly keep anything cool.  I tell her it will be alright and then.......I wake up.

Amy is trying to think of what dreaming of plants and food mean.  It was bizarre.

Here is a Christmas gift that is getting alot of use:

It is from Nancy and donations from the purchase went to Planned Parenthood in Donald Trump's name. Ha ha ha ha!!!!!
We had a 3 to 4 inch snow storm that quickly turned everything including our road to ice.  I shoveled the driveway and our neighbor, Mark, came over and helped me.

Our street, 3 days after the event.

Amy coming back from a walk,

The snow and cleared driveway.
Amy took Carolyn riding and put her up on Jake.

These are Carolyn's dogs ~ Ava and Riley.

Taking Carolyn to the airport.

My supervisor while I was taking down the front door garland ~ please notice Loki's nose in the corner.

Amy taking Carolyn and Maren on a forced march thru the woods.
Anyway, it was a lovely holiday.  Did anyone else notice that the last time Carolyn came home we had the hurricane and this time we had Winterstorm Helena?

Much love,
Leslie

Congratulations to Jim

It was a cold cold Sunday, but a day of great celebration.  Jim had his change of command ceremony:

Jim, Lori, Carolyn and Maren

This is the Legion of Merit awarded to Jim

Swag that Jim was given.  I guess no one will open a champagne bottle with this sword!
Nancy and Drew took the photos ~ so many many thanks to you!!!!!!

I know Jim has loved his time in the Army, but he is looking forward to the free time ahead.

Snow Day

Here we go...3 days of panic in the streets for 3 inches of snow.  We were lucky, because in Person County (which is Roxboro) and where Maren is the new Assistant District Attorney, got 8 inches of snow!!!!!!

And the cold is settling in.  I am not sure that I am ready for the -1 wind chill, but I did put styrofoam protectors over the water spigots outside.

The snow on the new steps

The back yard, so far.

Amy out with the dogs ~ Melanie is on the sofa.

More snowing.

Table decoration while Christmas is coming down.  Boo hiss.

Mom's results from her Ancestry.com dna.

Loki in his state-of-the-art glowing harness so Amy can see him running around at the barn,  Bennett doesn't need one.
I might go out and shovel a bit.  Maybe not.

Much love,
Leslie
