We Are Now Ready for Guests

Carole and Tony are coming here this weekend for Elon Parents Weekend.  It took about a week to get that room ready ~ the entire upstairs was pretty much a storage room.
But, I got it done.  I must say that hanging curtains are an enormous pain in the neck.

Queen bed guest room

Queen pull out bed loft/guest room

Twin bed guest room ~ that will have the second bed set up later
Jane had contacted us to see if she could stay with us when her parents were here.  Of course we said yes and I got the loft ready.  Amy thought she would prefer a room with a door but that room was full of boxes and I said the loft would be fine.

I thought about it and decided to move the boxes and get the room semi-set up ~ the sheets are clean, there are new pillows, you can move around in there..........it will be ok.

One more trip to Bed Bath and Beyond for a smallish lamp and Voila.....we are ready for guests!

Much love,
Leslie

Work Work Work

I just finished hanging the curtains in the loft.  Had to move the sofa, the chairs, the tables, stash stuff in the closets.........but I did it.  I am looking for the guest room flat sheets....that may be a lengthy process.....but I have the fitted one and the pillow cases.  Hmmmmm.

Here is a photo from the flooding in Durham.  This is the Cole Mill Road exit getting off I-85.  That is alot of water.

The dog door is finally going in!  Amy is hanging a sheet over the door to keep the bugs out while the guys are installing the door for Loki.

Here is the quilt I had made of the majority of my t-shirts.  I am really pleased with how it came out.  And, it utilizes the t-shirts that I just cannot let go.

Amy and I met Jane and two of her friends, Nicole and Mari, at Elmos last night for dinner.  Everyone had cravings for pancakes or waffles ~ I had their fabulous chicken and dumplings.  Then we met at Whit's in Hillsborough for frozen custard and that place was packed!!!!!!!! But the custard was delicious!!!!!

After the Hurricane

The weather guys were right in that Hurricane Florence is big and slow.  Here in Hillsborough we remained right on the outer edge.  Because LUCKILY, the hurricane took a dip south that protected us.

Last night it poured ~ Amy's dog, Loki, jumped on me twice out of a nice sound sleep to tell me he wanted to go outside.  So I get up and take him out.  He looks at the pouring rain and turned around and went back inside.  Not happy.

Here is what half an inch of water looks like.  I am so glad that Florence passed us by.

Amy went to Tryon, NC for the World Equestrian Games and is evidently having a ball.  The weather has been fantastic and she has seen and gotten her photo with her most favorite riders.  I just met a neighbor who had friends that were coming from Canada to go to the WEG and bailed because of the hurricane.  It appears that the storm is slow moving enough that when Amy is ready to leave that she can drive north and skirt the storm all the way home.  So, cross your fingers.

Amy and her friend Ursula
Jane is in Ohio with her friend India.  They could have stayed at school ~ but I guess better safe than sorry.

Well, time to walk the dog.

Love,
Leslie

Waiting on Hurricane Florence

Well, now it is a waiting game for Hurricane Florence.  Jane has already contacted us because Elon is not having classes and told the students to go home.  Really?????? So Jane is a bit freaked out and doesn't want to come here (we are 40 miles East of Elon) so I think she is going to Ohio with friends.  I encouraged her to avoid the East coast.  Anywhere West or South might be better.

Amy is packing up to go west to Tryon, NC to go to her highly anticipated World Equestrian Games ~ but she is worried about leaving me here alone with her dog and the birds.  We will be fine.  I have a full tank of gas in my car, bought 3 extra bags of ice, have my lanterns out and ready to go.  Batteries for the flashlight. I went to the library and have a bag of books for no power.

I will fill the sinks and tubs with water.  And then, wait and watch.

Lines at the gas station on Tuesday ~ storm is supposed to hit Thursday night or Friday.

Extra ice for the Yeti for when and if the power goes out..

Books for entertainment.  Can't depend on the kindle if there is no power to recharge.

All my lanterns that I have collected.  And people thought they would never be used.
And of course there is Fireball, oreo cookies.  Bread and peanut butter.  We will survive.

Hope everyone else is ready to go.

Much love,
Leslie

We Are Officially In the New House!

I am sorry to be so slow in posting some photos ~ I wish everything looked like House and Garden, but not yet.  But I do have some pictures so you can see that we are working on making the new house look like a home.

Our entry way.

The dining room ~ we will be changing the chandalier.

The living room

The kitchen
I know, most is self explanatory ~ I still am finding the "right" place for things and I continue to move stuff around.

This is my bathroom window that I had to "decorate" because we have brand new neighbors and I realized that I can see their upstairs windows from this window.  In the process of putting the screen up, I knocked the towel rack off.  But notice it is NOT centered under the window.  So it is coming down anyway.  Please note my supervisor is keeping his eye on me.

I finally got my bird feeder up and two birds have stopped by to snack and a hummingbird stopped by!!!! But with the hurricane on its way the birds may go away for a bit and then hopefully return.

I am ready for what ever Mother Nature chooses to bring.  Amy is going to the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, NC tomorrow for a week and she has decided to worry about me and Loki.  I expect we will be just fine with what ever happens.  We have city water and a gas stove and enough peanut better and bread and coke to make it.

Much love,
Leslie
