Congratulations to Val!!!!!

Today, if all had gone according to plan, I would have been in Yankee Stadium to see Val graduate from NYU.
The COVID - 19 pandemic changed our plans.
Instead, Nancy and Drew set up a Zoom Graduation Party.  I have never done Zoom but I was ready.  We had decorations, Nancy and Drew sent champagne.....

And we celebrated in typical talk over each otherand laugh alot.  I loved it.
For some reason, Amy and I were in a vertical box and not a horizontal box, but c'est la vie, Amy did figure out how to change the background.

I am not sure how schools and businesses can use Zoom ~ they must know how to do it better than we did.  Or maybe not.

Anyway, congratulations to Val.  You make me most proud.

Love,
Leslie

Phase I of the Yard is FINISHED!!!!!!

Miracle of miracles!!!! The front and side yard is finished ~ well phase one is.  We will get some annuals to provide a pop of color ..... but the major work is done.

Here is red and white drift roses, bee balm, cone flowers....a beginning

On the right corner of the fence, I planted a Sweet Autumn Clematis, which was Mom's favorite.  I put a hot pink hydranga in front of it to shade its roots.

These are along the side of the house ~ a camelia, azaleas, grasses....

The soaker hoses are in place, I am waiting on one more timer and hopefully we will be in business.  And luckily, we are in for a couple days of cool weather with rain in the forecast.

I am so happy with how it looks.  Now to get some of the pots planted and the new tourquise Adarondack chair out.....and the corn hole and we will be ready for summer!!!!!

Much love,
Leslie

A Work in Progress.......And We Were Robbed!!!!!!!

Amy and I have been planning quite a bit of yard work.  The patio, new sod in the back.  And I love it!!!!!

I got the tomatoes planted (finally) and the baskets up.  The old adage was correct this year:
Plant after Mother's Day.

I spent an hour watching blue birds take a bath in the water bowl on the rock.

Here is the front yard that with the sod taken off:

Mr. McAdoo and his crew of two older gentlemen are going to redo the bed along the side of the house, the front yard and  a bit of the other side.

plants from White Flower Farm

Plants that Mr. McAdoo brought
These plants were up along side of our garage and under Amy's bedroom window.  They were there 5 days while we were waiting for top soil.  During the stay at home orders, toliet paper, flour and top soil were difficult to find.  Go figure.

Anyway, on Friday morning I was up watering all the pots and I am looking at the flowers and I wonder "where are the peach roses?  Where are the red roses?"  I put down the hose and check the front yard in case Mr. McAdoo is there early.  Nope.  No plants.  WE WERE ROBBED!!!!!!!

The thief actually went down the row of plants and selected what he wanted.  I am trying to get an accurate list with prices but with I bought as replacements and I haven't replaced them all, it is in the $500.00 range.

I banged on Amy's window and told her to call the police at 8am.  She decided to post on the neighborhood site and give the thief 2 hours to return the plants, no questions asked.  But no one came forward and we called the police.  I was so mad.

On the nice side, so many neighbors texted and e-mailed Amy saying how sorry they were and all checked their cameras so we did see the truck and learned that the thief came by at 4:24am.  Our neighbors dog woke her up with the barking, but Loki and Gypsy slept through it.  Now if the thief had brought along his dog, they would have barked.

Amy and I went out and got some more plants so Mr. McAdoo could plant them in the topsoil that day.

So I was up at 6 this morning (Saturday) to water.  (The soaker hoses will go down on Monday before the mulch goes in. )  But it looks so nice!

I will have the finished pictures later!!!!

Much love,
Leslie

It's Mother's Day

Today is a day to celebrate and mourn.  It has been 40 years since the death of Scott.  So I thought I would celebrate by putting out some photos of Scott and of Mom.  Some are familiar and some may be new.  Either way look at them and smile.

Much love,
Leslie
