New Home Owner

This is the first picture of our newest home owner:

Carolyn is very excited ~ 3 car garage......3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths.....can you say "Room Mate"?

Not too bad for a first home!

I Hate Rick Pitino

For all of us Duke fans, who loved the ESPN 30 for 30 "I Hate Christian Laettner", this poem/jingle is for you.  (Please note that we LOVE Christian Laettner and I LOVE Bobby Hurley more!)

This is to the tune of "You Say Potato, I Say Patato"

You say debasement I say debauchery
You say amazement I say adultery

Pitino, Petrino, Petrino, Pitino
Let's call the whole thing off

You say an accident I say cheating
You say entanglement I say divorce proceedings

Pitino, Petrino, Petrino, Pitino
Let's call the whole thing off

You say hospitality I say kerfuffle
You say a dormitory I say a brothel

Pitino, Petrino, Petrino, Pitino
Let's call the whole thing off

You say recruitment I say delusion
Your say amusement I say prostitution

Pitino, Petrino, Petrino, Pitino
Let's call the whole thing off
Let's call the whole thing off

This comes from my most favorite radio show in the world:  The Tony Kornheiser Show" on ESPN radio. Genius!

Welcome to the Neighborhood

We are getting into the fall season and with that comes all the little kids and their fundraisers. It is a great way to meet the neighbors!  My next door neighbor, Jordyn sold me a coupon book (which I HAVE used), another little girl has sold me cookie dough and last night, Ian (the cutest little Cub scout ever) was selling popcorn

Ian very earnestly told me what the best popcorn was and what the neighbors had bought. Then he asked if he could see the dogs, becaused he loves dogs.  Of course I bought - I bought some for soldiers and I bought a big tin with popcorn, milk chocolate, nuts....it doesn't get much better than that!

We got cold enough to kill the basil and the hibiscus and parts of the mandevilla - I am so glad I got the plants into the garage!

The garage looks a bit messy ~ Amy is determined to get her car in it this winter, so there is stuff that needs to be moved.  I can, however, reach the plants and water them.

The maple tree next door is turning red and is beautiful! The one on the left is last week and the one on the right is this morning.  Gorgeous!

Sometimes It is Crazy

My nextdoor neighbors asked if would take care of their cats while they were out-of-town.  Of course I said Yes.  I went over and the husband walked me thru their security system and handed me a key alarm fob.  I left and they left.

I went over the next morning, one cat was outside and one cat was inside ~ and I had no key.  He just gave me the alarm fob.  I never even thought about it!  So, I fed the cat outside and brought him some water.  The inside cat had food and water and the comfort of being inside.  They stared at each other through the glass.  And I felt bad.

I contacted the family and told them what was going on and asked if someone else had a key.  They would check they said.  Luckily, another neighbor came over with a key.  Happy Days!!!! I mentioned it to Amy and said that maybe we ought to hide a key and she reminded me that Jim has a key, Lori has a key, Maren has a key and Jesse has a key.  So we are safe if we ever get locked out.

Then, I was typing a letter to our cousin Thorbjorg in Norway.  She just turned 96 in August! And as I was addressing the envelope ~ of course I was using the laptop keyboard as a flat top ~ and all of a sudden.......the screen image on the laptop turned upside down!

It was the strangest thing!  Has that ever happened to you?  I had to Google the question, and I had to turn the laptop upside down to do it and surprisingly it has happened to alot of people ~ you press Ctrl  Alt and the arrow up key together and Voila! The screen reverted back.  I still do not know what I pressed to have that happen.

And, last but not least, I believe this is a monarch butterfly ~ he was visiting our backyard:

Yard Sale

Does anyone really prepare for a yard sale?  Who are those people?

When Amy became a member of the neighborhood association, she asked if the neighborhood had a yard sale ~ so one was scheduled for Saturday October 10th.  From 8am to 1 pm.  Of course that day seemed so far away.

Last night we worked on it, but kept in our minds that it was supposed to rain this morning and then it would be cancelled.  So the effort was not so much.

This morning, I woke up at 5:15am and got up ~ because yard sale people are on the move before 7am and I wanted to be ready.  AND I wanted to see if it was raining and if I could go back to bed.

Nope, no rain.  So up and at 'em.

We didn't have alot, but we set up.  The first thing to go was a clock at 7:30am for $2.00.  My first sale.

Here we are with customers.

The dogs, of course, were having a fit inside, so I brought them outside and tied them to the car so they wouldn't scare away customers.

They would have preferred to be in the mix of things but I knew safety first!!!!

We didn't sell everything and we bought cookies from our little neighbor Sadie.

Jordan and Sadie
We made $60.00!! Not too bad and we supported the neighborhood event and we had fun.

Now it is time for a nap.  I have the Duke-Army game on.  I probably will have the Navy-Notre Dame game on ~ and hope.

Storm of 2015 ~ So Far

An hour ago, our wind warnings were just canceled ~ and we really lucked out with Hurricane Joaquin.  Lots of rain.  We got more rain in 4 days than we got in 6 months.  Poor South Carolina!!!  My friend, Pat Riordan, sent this picture of the Ocean City, Maryland boardwalk.

Look at the Sand!!!! Wow!
Lori says that as soon as the house in Myrtle Beach becomes water front property, she is selling.  Amy says that since Greenland is melting, WE may have ocean front property.  I am not sure of her timeline, but I am not worried.

Drying out,

Still Raining

It is still raining ~ but according to my phone....we have had 1.4 inches of rain.  There is a wind advisory out and we are supposed to get more rain,  but so far....all is well.

My friend, Pat Riordan, sent this picture of the surf in Ocean City, MD this morning.

This is early this morning during low tide.

I am watching the Angels vs Rangers game and it is so sunny!  We haven't seen the sun in days!  I also found the Air Force vs Navy football game for Mom - and it is raining there.  Lori and Jim are at the Boston College vs Duke football game...in the rain.  I am happy to be warm and dry.....watching tv.

Stay dry!

PS ~ Mom was wanting to talk to Mary McKinney because she heard that Augusta was getting 20 inches of rain.  So I tracked her down and she called Mom.  She is finishing up her summer in Jackson Hole and the neighbor who checks on the McKinney house had called to let her know that her skylight was leaking and there was water in the kitchen.  Oh oh.
Laurel and Holly are coming in to get their mom and they will drive to Council Bluffs so Mrs, McKinney can spend 2 days at a casino she likes.  (Doesn't that sound a bit strange to you?)
Mrs. McKinney says her car is full already, plus she has a dog and she doesn't know how Laurel and Holly will fit in the car.   I guess her car will be re-packed.

Get A Boat

The weather doom progosticators are at it again.  First, the hurricane was going to kill us all in the mid-Atlantic and we would have ocean front property, if we survived.  Mom is watching the weather and she keeps reporting to me "how much rain" we can get.

She is on the phone trying to call her friend, Mary McKinney, because Augusta, Georgia is supposed to get 20 inches of rain!  It is 57 degrees - we went from summer immediately to fall and from dry to wet.

Our grass, which really never needed to be cut all summer is now REALLY long and the ground is soggy.  I guess our major rain will be starting in a little bit.  (Thank goodness we don't have a basement!!!!!!!!!)

I am ready.  Got my foul weather shoes on.  Got a great raincoat.  Got all the towels for the dogs.  Bring it on.

I have been watching all the baseball - I had been hoping for some upsets, but I guess I have to wait to see who wins the wild card games.  No Orioles, No Giants, No Nationals - but I will watch to see what happens.

Stay dry!!!!
Love, Leslie

PS ~ this is how the dogs are handling the rain:
