This is a very busy time - Mom is trying to decide HOW she is getting to Hilton Head. Train or fly. If you don't remember the last train trip......
I put Mom on the train in Alexandria - it was a lovely day and the train was loaded with Girl Scouts on their way home from their big DC event. No problems, right?
Well, I kept contact with Mom and it turns out that the Girl Scouts ate everything on the train and by the time they got within 2 hours of the final stop, only one toliet worked. Not too bad because the end was in sight. In more ways than one.
Literally an hour out of Yemassee, SC (the destination for mom), the train came to a crashing stop. Someone had committed suicide by jumping in front of the train.
Mom called and said that she could see all the flashing blue lights and the investigators. And, you know, the train can't go anywhere until the suicide is investigated.
Lori, in the mean time, is sitting in the rain at the train station in Yemassee - alone. None of her kids wanted to go and it was going to be a quick pick up of Grandma.
Cell phones were losing power and time was going by.
Several hours later, the train gets the go ahead and Mom made it to Yemassee. And then, while Lori was driving in the dark rainy night, they saw a car on the other side of the median, lose control and roll off the highway. OMG.
Lori calls 911 to report it, and they ask her "Why didn't you stop?" Really, it was across the median, it is dark, it is pouring - what was she going to do? The SC State Patrol did call her later and say that they had rescued the people and all was well.
Mom, who doesn't like to fly, is really considering flying - because of that train trip. It actually could be safe to ride the train. After all, what could top it?
Lori and Jim dropped in for the weekend - to drop off Snoopy. They are off to Macon to relive their meeting at O'Leary's. Jim doesn't think O'Leary's is still there - but they will go and visit Mercer University and - wait a minute...I can't think of Lori's school. Hopefully it will come to me.
They got married over Memorial Day weekend - 32 years ago. And all of us remembered that it was HOT in Statesboro! We had a lot of laughs telling stories and reminiscing.
We ate at Lures - sat outside and had a ball.
Enjoy your day!
Love,
Leslie
